Best Australian Crypto Exchanges Compared (2026)

Choosing an exchange comes down to four things for most Australians: fees, how you fund it with AUD, which coins it lists, and whether the quoted price is the real price (spreads and in-app conversion fees can matter more than the headline trading fee).

All exchanges below are registered with AUSTRAC. Fees shown are indicative for a small standard AUD spot order — tiers and spreads apply, so always confirm on the exchange’s own fee schedule before trading.

How to read the table #

  • Trading fee is the advertised maker/taker or “market order” rate for a small trade. Most AU exchanges charge 0.1%–1% at retail volume; rates fall with 30-day volume tiers on order-book exchanges like Independent Reserve.
  • Pricing distinguishes order-book exchanges (you trade against other users, price = mid-market ± small spread) from broker-style exchanges (instant buys at a quoted price that embeds a spread).
  • AUD deposits: PayID and Osko transfers are instant and free at every exchange listed; avoid BPAY where a surcharge applies.

What to check before signing up #

  1. AUSTRAC registration — all exchanges above are registered; any Australian-facing exchange that isn’t is a red flag.
  2. Withdrawal fees for your coins — crypto withdrawal fees vary per network and change often; check the coin you actually plan to hold.
  3. Tax reporting — most AU exchanges produce CSV exports or partner with tax tools (see the crypto tax guide).
  4. Hold on the exchange or self-custody? — see hardware wallets vs software wallets.
